 Background Abacus Administration Ltd is a new company formed by the directors of Diprose Miller Limited to handle the trust and company administration work for clients. This initiative has been prompted by the increasing complexity and risk of administering trusts and companies in New Zealand. This type of work is demanding more and more of our time, with much of the work taking place “behind the scenes”. The name “Abacus” was chosen as it reflects the nature of our work, the name of our building and the name of our newsletter. Trustees Responsibilities If our trustee company (Diprose Miller Trustees Ltd) or any of our directors act as the professional trustee of a client trust we have a fundamental responsibility to act in the best interests of the beneficiaries. This can be a major undertaking and, as a professional trustee, one of the most important aspect of this role is to ensure that appropriate documents are prepared and executed at the time that any significant transactions occur. Preparing and maintaining documents will be the primary focus of our role. Practical Application The range of documentation required for companies and trusts is extensive.
